Processing Worship In Guatemala

One thing that struck me while we were in Guatemala leading worship was the passion with which the Guatemalan people worship. They didn't know about half the songs, but as soon as the words were on the screen, they began singing them with their whole heart. They didn't wait to learn the melody. They just sang. The melody came later.

The alter would be four people deep by the end of worship...people standing and kneeling, both old and young people. When it came time to take the offering--right after worship, the whole church rushed the stage to put their offering in the buckets placed there by the ushers.

Pastor Joseph taught at both services and the ministry time at the end lasted 45 minutes to an hour both times. People waited to be prayed for, some stood and wept, some couldn't stand because of their weeping, some manifested demons, some fell under the power of God, some lay on the floor, some just stood and sang. And none of it had anything to do with me. I just played and sang worship. God did the moving.

But it was so refreshing for me to see people who were hungry for God, worship Him with their whole being. They really wanted to meet with God and they expected His presence. They were uninhibited in their desire for God. And they got Him. It's that hunger that I desire to bring back to the States. It's that uninhibited, unabashed longing for His presence that brings breakthrough and opens heaven's floodgates, bringing more of Him.

Isn't it interesting how that happens in Guatemala and it's called a service and it happens here and it's called a revival. Haste the day when it's an everyday occurrence in the american church!
