Lots Of Flavors

This past Sunday we had some friends over for dinner. We had a blast. The music was on, everyone had a job to do, and the smell in the kitchen was amazing. Eating it was fun, too.

I had to laugh at one point because of the total randomness of the "flavors" in the room. Our Guatemalan friend, Claudia, was with us, as well as Kenneth's younger brother from Texas. We were making an Italian meal of spaghetti and Kenneth's homemade marinara sauce and homemade turkey meatballs, with salad and homemade Italian dressing. Nearly everything was fresh, with fresh basil, garlic, onions, tomatoes, etc. (Right up my ally!)

The whole time we had our Afro-Cuban music turned up and even stopped to take Salsa lessons from Claudia. That--and the marinara sauce--were Selah's favorite parts of the evening.

Everything was so delicious and so fun. We just sat around the table for a while after we were done eating because, well, what else do you do when your belly's full and smile is wide? I don't know how it works, but it seems to me that Black, White, and Latin go well with Italian and Afro-Cuban.
